Our client is a division of a large, successful manufacturing company that provides equipment to the pulp and paper industries. The company is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong analytical and machine design skills who will be responsible for designing customized paper machinery equipment and components for its Capital Equipment business.
Responsibilities include
- Review Capital Equipment project documentation to thoroughly understand customer/project requirements. Communicate with Inside Application Specialists to review the needs of the project and gather technical information to ensure the design meets all the functional requirements of the application.
- Utilize SolidWorks to develop design layouts (3D model), assembly drawings, detail drawings, control drawings and other project documentation as needed. Utilize sound mechanical design skills and company standards to develop these designs. Check work to ensure accuracy of drawings. Ensure that engineering documentation is properly distributed to Manufacturing, Sales and the customer.
- Perform mechanical design calculations (structure deflection, stress and natural frequency).
- Work closely with, and provide guidance to, Mechanical Designers who may be assigned to a project. Work closely with Inside Application Specialists to ensure that the project functional objectives are met. Work with Manufacturing, Purchasing and other company departments as needed to resolve engineering issues that may occur while equipment is being manufactured or installed. Work with R&D, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales and vendors on product improvements, cost reduction programs and new product development programs.
- Initiate requisitions to advance order materials as needed to expedite manufacturing.
- Travel to customer sites to obtain accurate field dimensions from existing equipment, use SolidWorks CAD software to develop design layouts and drawings on site, take lead role in design review meetings with the customer to review design drawings and obtain customer approval on site, troubleshoot equipment, assist sales and customer with product operation, provide technical support during sales presentations.
- Generate, modify and improve engineering design standards and guidelines. Ensure that documents are communicated throughout the engineering group and other departments.
Requirements include:
- BS, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design Engineering
- 3D CAD experience. Proficiency with SolidWorks strongly preferred
- Proficient with MS Word and Excel
- Strong analytical and machine design skills
- Proven skills in organization, verbal and written communication, and problem solving
- Ability to work with a “continuous improvement” mentality
- Must be able to travel 25-40%
