R&D Engineer

Our client is a leading manufacturer of accessory equipment for the paper and web converting industry. We are looking for an energetic R&D Engineer who can be a technical resource to all departments in the company. Candidate will be working on development of new fiber reinforced composite materials as well as helping customer with existing products. Candidate will report to the Manager of R&D.
Responsibilities include:
- Work independently on product design and development, testing of developed materials, preparation of specifications, etc. Will be working directly with suppliers.
- Work with field sales staff (and sometimes customers) to identify cause of problems with product and recommend alternate products as need be.
- Perform troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material or process. Work with Manufacturing to ensure design for manufacturability.
- Design and coordinate standard tests and experiments.
- Summarize, analyze and draw conclusions from test results. Provide independent technical recommendations based on same.
- Prepare standard reports and documentation.
Requirements include:
- BS degree in plastics, polymer chemistry or equivalent. MS degree is a plus.
- Knowledge of composite manufacturing and testing processes. Knowledge of lamination, pultrusion or other processes is preferred. Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Demonstrable track record of working independently on projects.
- Strong desire to attack problems and develop solutions. Candidate must have an inquisitive and adaptive mind so that open ended project questions are closed.
- Highly motivated self-starter capable of multitasking and independent thinking. Good communication skills, fluency in English.
- Permanent US Resident (Green card) or Citizen
- Ability to travel 20% to customer sites in US and occasionally overseas.
