Our client company acts as a technical resource and partner to manufacturers in the area of recycling and environmental management. This exciting green business has excellent potential for growth and innovation. A challenging opportunity exists for Production Manager at its Bronx, NY facility.

This plant, one of two Northeast locations run by our client company, is a relatively small operation. The business is poised for expansion and may afford advancement opportunities as performance demonstrates and business takes off.

Our Production Manager candidate understands that meeting customer demand in a service sensitive operation is a driving force in what gets done. The individual also knows and demonstrates a successful combination of leadership attributes, including resourcefulness and creativity in problem solving, bias toward action and personal commitment required to be successful in an entrepreneurial environment.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Production Manager has day to day responsibility for continuous operation of equipment, safety and productivity of its operators, maintenance mechanics and leads; management and efficiency of its warehousing, shipping and receiving, and logistics, including accountability for meticulous tracking of materials into and out of the entire facility.

This person is expected to make operational improvements in material and product flow, utilizing lean manufacturing principles and 6S processes to develop and hold the team accountable.

Specific responsibilities:

Supervise work of shift leads, maintenance supervisor, shipping, receiving and warehouse personnel, enforcing all safety, environmental and health requirements.
Manage and improve production performance, including: process flow, maintenance, warehousing, shipping, receiving and logistics; parts, supplies and inventory tracking; receipt to invoice cycle time and order processing and tracking.
Measure, monitor and report yield, efficiencies and staffing levels; recommend and implement agreed upon corrective actions.
Accurately track inbound and outbound goods, materials and by-products assuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Develop and implement approved SOPs and metrics from inbound material to shipment of recovered product.
Manage budget, labor, parts, supplies and inventory in areas of responsibility.
Assist in diagnosis of maintenance problems and repair strategies in collaboration with maintenance supervisor.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, well-organized production leader who is adept at analyzing and solving mechanical problems. He/she understands accounting principles and is capable of providing input to and managing a budget and can read a P& L statement.

With exceptional attention to detail, he/she is able to organize people and processes around specific tasks; is also knowledgeable about basic human resources concepts and has experience in supervising others and in leading change in an industrial setting.

This person can effectively communicate with external customers and foster commitment to customer needs among his/her entire team.

Requirements include:

3-7 years of increasingly responsible roles in production supervision and management in high volume industrial multi-shift environment with several years of hands-on or supervisory experience in maintenance.
Understanding and implementation of lean principles and 6S.
Strong electro-mechanical background to solve mechanical and material handling challenges.
Bachelor’s degree in technical field, or combination of vocational studies and relevant experience.
Strong leadership skills with focus on results to coach the production team to ensure timely, quality products.
Previous experience developing, monitoring and managing a budget with prior P&L responsibility.
Solid computer skills with expertise in MS Excel - ability to build formulas.
Bilingual English/Spanish
Commitment to developing environmentally and financially sound solutions to waste recovery services.
